Teaching Teen Driving: A 7 Part Game Plan

Teen Driving: Find A Safe Place To Practice The Basics.

After your teen has gotten their drivers permit, start with a safe practice spot like an open parking lot or stretch of empty road. This safe practice spot is where they can practice the basics of accelerating, braking, turning, signaling, and even parking. This is a good stage to teach shifting gears if using a manual transmission. The teen should know how to use mirrors and how to check blind spots. Develop the driver-in-training’s estimation of the car’s size and how to navigate any surrounding obstacles.
