Not to mention that your child may be cautious in general as well.  After all, they just lost one of their parents, in either a short term problem, or a problem that has lasted for years.  Adding in a new parent to the mix could seem quite tough on a child as they may not know what is expected of them.  Many children just want to be loved, and if they are rejected by their new parent you will be facing all kinds of problems.
