One of the best things that you can do for your toddler is begin to teach them their ABCs.  This is because the younger that they learn their letters, the better that they are going to do when it comes time to read and write.  There are some things that you should consider when teaching the alphabet to your toddler.

Remembering that your toddler needs continuous practice each day is a great place to start.  Also reminding yourself that your toddler will learn at their own pace is important.  You do not want to rush your toddler and make it where they do not want to learn.  You should also focus on making learning time fun for them.

It can be tricky to teach your toddler their alphabet.  There are many things that you can do that can help them to learn while still having a good time.  The following are some great ways to teach your toddler their alphabet.

1. Work on One Letter at a Time

Teaching your child one letter at a time is idea.  You should introduce the letter by name, show your child a picture of the letter, and work with your child on the sound that the letter makes.  You will want to start with the letter “A.”  Once your toddler is able to recognize the letter you can work on finding the letter in different places.  This can be a fun game that you do while you are at home or even while you are on the go.  You can find letters in so many places that this game can always be fun and exciting because it is ever changing.  Once you feel like your child has mastered the letter “A” you will be able to move on to the letter “B” and so on.

2. Make Your Own Flashcards Together

Another great thing that you can do with your toddler is make flashcards together.  This is something that your toddler will enjoy and can be a great learning tool as well.  Pick up some letter cut-outs at your local school supply store or craft store.  Grab some large sized notecards and help your child paste the letters to the notecards.  Letter stickers can also be stuck to these.  When you are done, take them to be laminated so that they will last a long time.  Work with your child on identifying the letters and find ways to have the letters visible during playtime.

3. Utilized Books and Puzzles

There are many different board books and puzzles that are focussed on the alphabet.  Use these with your toddler to work on the letters.  Additionally there are some great craft books where your toddler gets to work on one letter at a time to create a page where they focus completely on what the letters are.  These books can be a fun activity to do with your toddler and a great resource for sharing the letters with them when they are completed.

4. Have an Alphabet Bath

Foam letters are a great learning resource when you want to teach your toddler the alphabet.  Toddlers love baths so working with their letters in the bath gives them a comfortable place to learn.

5. Use An App

There are a wide range of apps available today that are perfect for teaching the alphabet to your toddler.  Some of these apps also work on letter sounds and teach your child words that start with these letters.  Using apps is a great way to entertain your child with a tablet while still making sure that they are learning at the same time.
