Baltimore Mom Beats Sense Into Son
You may have seen a video that’s been circulating the web. In the video, which was recorded April 27, 2015, a Baltimore mom can be seen chasing after her son, a young African-American man wearing a black hoodie. His mother had seen him on the news throwing objects at police officers reported KTLA. This did not sit well with the woman who left her home to go find her son. Upon finding him she can be seen hitting him, yelling at him and running after him.
According to Yahoo! News she can be heard yelling, “Are you kidding me?” at her son.
It is estimated that anywhere from 75 to 100 of the children involved in the riots were of school age.
The video grabbed the attention of Baltimore’s Police Commissioner, Anthony Batts, “If you saw on one scene, you had one mother who grabbed her child who had a hood on his head and she started smacking him on the head because she was so embarrassed. I wish I had more parents that took charge of their kids out there tonight.”
In normal circumstances this video would have probably gone viral for child abuse. However, given the dramatic events that took place in Baltimore last night, it seems that more parents should have taken this mother’s approach. While her approach was physical, it was also effective.
ABC News reported that public schools in Baltimore were closed today due to the riots. There will be a 10 p.m. curfew, citywide, for the rest of the week. Children 14 and younger have a 9 p.m. curfew. Mayor of Baltimore, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has said that these curfews may be extended if necessary.
