How To Easily Make Homemade Nut Butter

A premium homemade nut butter is becoming a hot commodity, and for most parents, it’s tastier. Homemade nut butter tastes incredible and fresh compared to its pre-made and processed competition. Buying fancy nut butter at the store can be very expensive, but with a little patience and the right tools, you’ll be able to make your own from scratch right from the comfort of your own home.

Be Picky.

When picking your nuts, you can either pick a variety of nuts to make your butter or you can choose just one kind of nut. Each variety creates its own unique flavor and yields a different texture. Nuts that have a higher content of oil like macadamia nuts will create a butter that is looser. Experiment with all different kinds of nuts to see which one will be your favorite. If you like a certain nut, you’ll more than likely love the butter form.

Let’s Prepare.

Unless you like the taste of raw nuts, it’s recommended that you lightly toast your nuts before the next step. Toasting those makes them taste better and gives them more flavor. To toast, set your oven to 400 degrees, lay your coarsely chopped nuts on a baking sheet and toss them in the oven until golden brown. Cooking time varies so keep an eye on them.

Let’s Blend.

If you don’t have a high-powered blender like a Vitamix, a food processor will work just fine. The amount of nuts you use is going to be dependent on the amount of butter you want to make, and the size of container you want to store it in. As you start this process, the nuts go through 3 phases. You’ll know when the nuts turn into a butter consistency and this could take up to 12 minutes with a food processor.

Sweeten It Up.

The nice thing about making your own homemade nut butter, you can control how sweet it is. If you don’t like it sweet, it doesn’t have to be sweet. Some people love to use a dark brown sugar, which adds a nice warm sweetness to the butter. Others use honey, maple syrup, or organic granulated sugar and you can also add salt.
