How Safe Are We Today?

Statistically children are safer today then they were during the times when it was okay for them to roam the streets.  The difference is that today we are able to view the different horror stories from around the world on cable TV.  So it is actually safer for children today to walk around and play outside alone then it was for children who were growing up in the 1970’s and 1980’s.  This does not convince me to allow my children to run around playing alone but it does make me think about whether or not they will act different than I do as an adult.
