Dedicated Kerry Washington Live-Tweeted “Scandal” Fans During Labor
Kerry Washington plays the role of “Olivia Pope,” on the hit TV show Scandal. Washington takes her job very seriously, every week she tweets as Scandal airs. Washington is known for keeping her life very private, as she told People.com in 2013, it just doesn’t work for her to talk about her personal life.
Lena Dunham recently interviewed Washington for a piece featured in Marie Claire’s April 2015 Issue, Exclusive Sneak Peek: Marie Claire April Cover Star Kerry Washington. Washington told Dunham, “Earlier in my career I was much more super-sharey. There were moments when I wanted to process things that were happening to me more privately, and I didn’t have the space to do it, because once you let people in, they’re in and you don’t get to say, ‘Oh, I want this for myself.'”
Washington recently revealed that she “live tweeted” before she was about to give birth last year. She told Net-A-Porter.com’s The EDIT,
“Every Thursday within three weeks of my due date, I loaded up pre-tweets based on the episodes and what I would want to say.” She continued, “I tweeted in the very early stages of my labor. I figured that if I went completely silent on social media, then people would know I was in the hospital.”
It seems that while Kerry Washington does take her role as Olivia Pope seriously, she continues to take her personal life even more seriously. She wanted to remain loyal to fans but did not want the public to know that she was in labor due to her lack of tweets. The effort to stay dedicated to her adoring fans, especially those who look forward to her commentary, is highly respectable.
